AFA Cinema

The Associate of Fine Arts in Cinema provides you with hands-on, practical experience with the basic technical, creative and business elements involved in creating visual content for film and television. You’ll learn from a distinguished faculty of filmmakers and creative professionals, many of whom continue to work in film and television development, production and postproduction. A broad foundation of liberal arts and sciences courses taught by a diverse general education faculty with rich academic backgrounds in the liberal arts and sciences exposes you to the wider world of thought and ideas that enable critical thinking, creative problem-solving and the ability to communicate your ideas and opinions effectively.

Program learning outcomes

Upon successfully completing the AFA in Cinema, students will be able to:

  1. Apply technical and formal elements of storytelling in cinematic arts.
  2. Make use of foundational tools and techniques of professional cinema production.
  3. Analyze works of cinema with regard to creative merits and cultural dimensions.
  4. Assess the practical needs of a given cinema project from development through post production.
  5. Model established norms and practices for collaboration and communication in professional settings.
