English language proficiency
If your native language is not English, you must adequately demonstrate English competency as a part of the application process by taking one of the following English language proficiency exams:
Duolingo
Minimum score: 105
The Duolingo English Test can be taken online and on-demand in under an hour. The test is taken via a computer with a camera and includes a proficiency score, video interview and writing sample which are shared with California College of ASU when you send your results. Certified results are available within 48 hours of the test session.
TOEFL
The TOEFL exam is administered by the Educational Testing Service. You must submit a TOEFL ibT® score of 80 or higher.

IELTS
The IELTS exam is administered by the International English Language Testing System. You must submit an IELTS Overall Band Score of 6.5 or higher. IELTS scores cannot be requested online. Copies of IELTS scores made by the international applicant will not be accepted. To order official IELTS scores, an international applicant must contact the IELTS test center to request that official test results be sent directly to:

iTEP
The iTEP exam is administered by iTEP International. You must submit an iTEP exam score of 4.5 or higher.
English-language proficiency exemptions
The following applicants may qualify for an exemption to the English Proficiency requirement:
- Applicants from countries where English is the only official language — Applicants who have completed two consecutive years of full-time high school or one year of college or university (non-ESL) study in the U.S. or other country where English is the only official language. This exemption is granted only based on the review of official transcripts.
- Applicants with test-based exemptions — These exemptions are based on submitted official score reports, including an AP English Language and Composition score of 4 or higher or an IB score of 4 or higher on the English Language and Literature exam

California College of ASU has partnered with American English College. AEC offers English learning courses to prepare students who need additional help learning the English language. More information can be found on their website.
