A grant is an award that does not need to be repaid as long as the student remains eligible. There are two types of Federal grants – Pell grants and Federal Supplemental Education Opportunity Grant (FSEOG) grants.
Federal Pell Grant
Pell Grants are for undergraduate students who have not earned a Bachelor’s or other professional degree and who are enrolled at least half time. The Department of Education determines a student’s eligibility for Pell Grant by reviewing their FAFSA to generate the Expected Family Contribution (EFC). The amount of Pell grant awarded is based on a student’s EFC, their cost of attendance, whether they attend full-time or part-time and whether they attend school for a full academic year or less.
The maximum Federal Pell is $7,395 for the 2023-24 award year
Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grants (FSEOG)
FSEOG grants are awarded to undergraduate students with a high financial need. Only students who are Pell eligible are eligible for the FSEOG grant.
- Award amount is based on annual allocation available and student eligibility.
